Bancontodos (Encounter Place series)
This piece is a new development in my work revolving around the border between daily life and Art. It clearly adds to the Encounter Place series by exploring the dualistic nature of the relationship between the individual and society. This duality is reflected in the formal structure of the “sculpture”.
As Carlos Monsiváis has said, today “the city is built upon its systematic destruction”. I find the intolerance between people an example of this destruction. And this “bench”, made by two opposites that complement each other symbolizes the city that re-thinks and re-designs itself; learning from its own challenges and failures.
